Mambo

This rhythmic dance is born in Cuba and has a very close ressemblance with the Salsa.  It is very much appreciated in America.  If you always dreamed of moving like the actors of Dirty Dancing, then Mambo is just for you.

The Mambo is danced following the musical rhythm of the 4/4.  A starting basic step is done in 8 times, corresponding to a total of 12 moves.  1& 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 &8.  There is a little stop in the moves belonging to the even numbers.

Starting tips

The dancers position each other as if they were  mirror images of each other.

They stand very close together, latin-style.  Some dancers take their partners by the waist, while others pose their hands on the shoulders and backs.  In that way they connect their bodies in a very close, intimate form.

The Mambo originated from the big Latino Orchestras are very easy to dance to.  We have many categories to mention, all of them due to the musicians that promoted them.  We have: "Mambo jambo" (Perez Prado), "Mambo Gozón" (Tito Puente) or "Cuban Mambo" (Xavier Cugat).
