Around the 18th century, the cuban guaracha was adopted by the gypsies in Sevilla in Spain, thus creating then the Rumba Flamenca.  A very lively type of music, not so complicated and ideal to be danced in groups.  Its big representatives are The Gipsy Kings, Paco de Lucia, and Paco Pena.

In the Ballroom

Circa 1930, the cuban Son is named Rumbe in the United States, by the promotion of Xavier Cugat, and Rumba becomes a dance to be enjoyed in the ballrooms.  Nowadays, it still keeps its old style of having the woman lure the man with her charms as a sign of subtle power.  The game of seduction is played amongst the dancers.  The sensual movements are evident, showing the power man have over woman.
