The History of Sevillanas

The Sevillanas is a typical folk music and dance that, contrary to what the name may lead you to believe, did not originate in Seville, Spain. Beginning more than 500 years ago as fusion of Castilian folk music and Flamenco, Sevillanas has evolved to become a rich and historic part of Spanish culture and tradition, and a symbol of Seville, the capital of Andalusia in the south of Spain.

The dance has become popular due to the annual Seville Fair, where several stages are dedicated todaily Sevillanas dance shows. Furthermore, fair spectators will often dance Sevillanas and party until the early hours of the morning.
